Creation

Salvador Hernandez[El Mero Mero] created soychicano.com(formally known as Chican0.com) after he noticed there weren't many websites created for Chicanos back in the late 90's  But first he had to learn the basics of website construction. In it's infancy, soychicano was a personal home page back then and it took a few years(in 2003) for the the site to evolve into the community forum it is today. Soychicano's birthday is officially on March 5th, 1998[link].

Early promotion of the soychicano.com community included going to people's personal pages and leaving comments, signing guestbooks, etc. The site quickly gained a lot of popularity. Each member has their unique story of how they found soychicano.com

Domain Change

The domain was originally Chican0.com but it was changed due to the confusion of people wanting to go to chicano.com. A site not owned or in anyway related to soychicano.com.People mistaked the zero with the letter "O"  It was changed to soychicano.com after sal requested some ideas for possible domain changes from the soychicano.com community.

Site is currently running vbulletin but it ran phpBB for a few years.
